"Enable Hint Transmissions" set to 'off' in the Audio Options menu will disable most of the transmissions that play a lot.

Please make sure all the volume sliders are set to 100% 'ON' in the Audio Options menu. I know you mentioned you set things to Default, but please confirm. Thanks.
